Being an 11th grader, I often look back on the start of my High School experience. Although 9th grade seemed like a burden at the time, I often wish I could go back and appreciate the moments when I didn’t have to stay up until 2:00 in the morning finishing homework, or worrying about the work that awaits me in my free periods. Getting through High School with a positive mindset is a challenge, however I have realised that it is very beneficial in terms of self-growth.

Every day students are faced with academic and social obstacles which are all part of this stage of our lives. Looking back, I wish I tried harder and took school more seriously from the very start because I feel that my work ethic would be drastically different to what it currently is. If I could, I would go back and put more effort into assignments for all subjects. This is because I am now aware of how we mature through a series of learning curves, testing us at different times in our lives. I now know that it is important to stay resilient and make the most of every situation. As students, we do not only learn facts but we also discover more about ourselves. This can be referred to as ‘personal development’. For example, the kind of study methods that are effective for us personally, lets us know what the type of learners we are. Of course, it is easy enough to go off on a tirade about the ways in which school can be full of stress, however we should all aim to maintain an optimistic view on our circumstances and think about how we can grow from our experiences.
