The personal project, a great MYP creation imposing all students to set a goal upon themselves to create something unique and of their interest. They will work on it for six months straight trying to achieve their goal. Although this doesn’t seem so bad as you get to choose whatever you want it comes with a catch. You must write down and record everything you do and in the end, write a 3500 word essay about it.

For the past eight months now, grade 10s have been supposedly working hard on their personal project. Although the actual project was handed in November 2nd, students are now working away on the report.

The project started in may, when students were asked to come up with a unique idea. Something that they wanted to create and make their goal. They then had to go through a process of steps before they could start creating criteria and a time plan.

Each student was assigned a mentor. Someone who shared an interest in their topic and who would help them through the process. Students had mandatory meetings with them but could go to them whenever they needed help.

Students were then able to start their product. Hopefully they got some work done during the summer holidays and were able to do be quite relaxed when school started again!  However much work students did during the summer, the last week before the product  was due, was chaos for everyone.

Once products were handed in, the reports were started by the students, or for most ignored until the week before the draft was due! Grade 10s are now in their final stages of the personal project and are due to hand in the product soon. They are now waiting for it all to end. Make sure to attend the personal project fair on March 8th to check out all the student’s unique products.
