Part of our goal as a school is obviously to keep up with the time and to develop. What that has meant in the past few years is to increase our use of social media, the internet and applications as a tool. Teachers have made it their mission to find good websites or applications that can help us in our studies. While most are quite useful, I am guessing a lot of us, like myself, have been feeling quite overwhelmed by it.

Jstore, Questia, Naviance, Brainpop, Noodletools, Schoology, Symbaloo, Managebac, Google Calendar, Destiny quest, Quizlet, Kahoot, Pearson, Khan Academy and the ISZL website to name a few. Who hasn’t felt lost in all these websites and who doesn’t have some random document with all their login information written down.

I am grateful for all the tools I have access to and all the subscriptions the school gets in order to facilitate our learning. However, I feel that we have become obsessed with their use and are limiting our options. Personal project process journal now has to be in Managebac, your every single move has to be registered in your google calendar and every essay that hasn’t been referenced through noodletools isn’t really worth reading.

The tools are all great, but they are just tools. Part of high school is finding out how you learn best so don’t freak out. Yes you’ll have to use some of these and might spend hours looking for your login details for this random website you haven’t used in a year. But eventually, you’ll figure out what you need and what you don’t. Use all of these or none, at the end of the day you know how you learn best and as long as you get it done it’ll all be fine. And just remember, everything will be ok as long as your managebac is up to date.
